Baby Development Week 17

Here is how the baby is developing this week: (from whattoexpect.com)

How big is your baby at 17 weeks pregnant? About five inches long and more than three and a half ounces — the size of your open hand. (Open the other one too and imagine your baby cradled in both your arms right after delivery!) Body fat (baby's, that is) is beginning to form and will continue to accumulate through the end of your pregnancy. By the time your baby is born, body fat will make up about two-thirds of his or her weight (and will make all those chubby parts especially yummy).

Your baby is almost certainly listening up by now. In fact, loud noises — the dog barking, the doorbell ringing — will actually startle your baby (and also get him or her used to such noises; for instance, fetuses who regularly hear a dog barking will become babies who sleep right through Fido's outbursts). Your baby's eyes (which have fortunately finished their migration to the front of his or her head) are making small side-to-side movements and can even perceive some light, though the eyelids are still sealed. And since practice makes perfect, your baby is sharpening his or her sucking and swallowing skills in preparation for that first (and second…and third) suckle at your breast or bottle. In fact, most of the survival reflexes that your baby will have at birth are being perfected in utero right now

And here's some proof that your baby is truly one of a kind (as if you needed any!). Within the next week or so, the pads on your baby's fingertips and toes will become adorned with completely individual swirls and creases (aka fingerprints).

Week 17 Highlights!!!

How far along: 17 weeks, 1 day Size of baby: 5 inches (the size of a turnip!) and 5 ounces in weight
Total weight gain: NONE! I have actually lost 10 lbs. Im interested to see how much I've gained by the next appointment, though.

Maternity Clothes: Still not wearing any maternity clothes. My jeans are still too big after losing a few pounds in the beginning!

Gender: BOY!!!

Movement: Nothing significant, really. I still cant distinguish the baby moving from my stomach growling!

Sleep: I have been sleeping pretty well lately. I have just been having some CRAZY dreams!!

What I miss: Nothing really!

Cravings: fruit, fruit, fruit and more fruit!!!!!!!!

Symptoms: Horrible allergies and a few headaches!

It's a BOY!!!!!!!!!

Well, well, well.... we are having another stinky little boy! Man, I am going to have my hands FULL with this family full of boys! I should be used to it after growing up with two brothers!!!!!!! I am actually really excited about having another boy. Since I have already been through the whole boy thing with Jackson, i feel like i will have no problem raising another one! Little boys love their mommies, and now I will have two little boys to love on!

Highlights

I stole this from another blog that I read, but I thought it was a pretty good way to sum everything up!

How far along: 14 weeks, 6 days Size of baby: 3 inches (the size of a lemon- says my pregnancy tracker on my phone!)

Total weight gain: NONE! I have actually lost 10 lbs. Im interested to see how much I've gained by the next appointment, though.

Maternity Clothes: I bought a pair of maternity jeans a few weeks ago, just because, and I havent even gotten them out of the bag yet! I bought a bunch of cute dresses from target that werent even maternity dresses, but they will be perfect for me during the summer! I never bought maternity clothes when I was pregnant with Jackson. My mom bought me one shirt, and I refused to wear it. So maybe I'll get lucky this time around too!

Gender: TBA very very very soon!

Movement: I was sitting at my desk at work the other day and I could have sworn I felt a few little bumps in my tummy, but for all I know it could have been my stomach growling. haha!

Sleep: I haven't been sleeping well lately. I already get up at least twice a night to pee!

What I miss: Lets get real, I miss the occasional coctail. What I wouldnt give for a cold margarita on these hot Louisiana days! But, this will totally be worth the wait in the end!

Cravings: SLUSHIES!!!!! I really, really, really, really, really, want a Slushpuppie Slushie, and unfortunately I cannot find them in all of Shreveport/Bossier. So, if you find one, please let me know!

Symptoms: Uncontrolable gagging (ha!) and headaches

That funny little sense called "smell"

And sight.. and sound... I have been feeling SO much better this past month. Not alot of queasiness (unless I eat too much). There is just one thing that I can't get past- I keep gagging at everything. If I see something gross, smell something gross, hear something gross, or touch something gross I start gagging like crazy. It is actually pretty funny! Being a mom already has toughened my senses (with all the dirty diapers i've changed, and throw up i've cleaned up) so usually it would take a lot to gross me out- but not now! For example: My grandmother burnt popcorn the other day at her house, and I was gagging so uncontrollably that I had to leave the room! It was so bad! I gag in the grocery store if I see a food that I know I don't like. I gag in the middle of dinner if something on my plate doesnt look quite right. It is all very strange!!! So, all in all, the pregnancy symptoms have died down a bit, just dont be surprised if I run squealing if something gross happens when you are around me!

IMPATIENT!!!

Oh my goodness. My next doctors appointment is in less than two weeks and hopefully, Hopefully, HOPEFULLY we will be able to find out if it is a little boy or a little girl! (I, personally, think it's going to be another stinky boy!) My parents both think it is going to be a girl. Who knows! All I know is that I am IMPATIENTLY waiting until April 26th so we can find out! I have many things that are lined up, but can't be done until we find out the sex! I am having the carpet replaced in the baby's room, but I dont want to do that until we paint the walls, and I can't paint until I figure out if we are having a boy or a girl! I am SUPER excited to get started on the nursery. Thankfully I have plenty of time to do it, because I feel like my life is NON STOP lately! I am always going and going and going and going! I need a vacation. Bad. I feel the beach calling my name shortly! This summer will be full of wedding showers/ weddings/ baby showers for me, so I need to go NOW! Can't I just stay at home until the baby is born, and then go back to work? Please? Pretty pretty please? A girl can dream....

Alien Baby

Here is my little alien at 12 weeks, 5 days! His/her heartbeat was a healthy 153 that day! (This was taken a few weeks ago- I have just been behind in blogging everything!)
